Halloween Costumes
Halloween is probably one of the most exciting days of the year, and Halloween costumes make it more fun, entertaining, and memorable. Children go out on the streets Trick or Treating, while the young adults hit the clubs and party dressed up as different characters. Housewives decorate the lawn with gloomy lights and scary objects to get it ready for guests or passers-by. The adventurous go to the local haunted house and have a ghost hunting activity.
Halloween may also be one of the most stressful events there is, especially for people who want to impress with their latest, most creative costumes! Costume contests abound at this time, and individuals or teams work hard to get the top prize. It is often difficult to conceptualize what to wear, and it is often important to be original and unique. Here are some costume ideas that are both popular and relatively easy to design:
1. Japanese Anime -Intricate costume designs and wild hairstyles make the Japanese Anime character stand out from other Halloween costumes. Theme parties and comic book conventions are organized to honor this genre. Young girls may choose to come as one of the Sailor Moon characters, while the boys may opt to come as Naruto or one of the Super Sayans from Dragon Ball Z. The costume can even be as simple as a kimono, a wild red wig, and an oversized sword. The “Japanese Schoolgirl Look” is also easy to achieve. Just put together a white shirt, a loose necktie, a short checkered skirt, long socks and a ponytail and you are all set!
2. Dead Artists – Dead artists such as Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe or Amy Winehouse also make popular choices. The Michael Jackson look can be achieved by wearing an all black ensemble, light facial makeup, and a hat. Marilyn Monroe, on the other hand, would require a short white dress, a blonde wig, and a nice red lipstick. Go for the macabre look by adding a touch of blood and a hint of mud. This will literally bring them back from the dead, straight from the grave!
3. Super Heroes – Who doesn’t love a good super hero costume? This set is probably one of the most popular of Halloween costumes. Superman or Spiderman is always a good choice, but less popular characters such as Psylocke and Nightcrawler may also make an appearance or two. The good news: super hero costumes are usually available at the local costume shop or online store. The bad news: they don’t usually come cheap. A good twist would be creating your own superhero, based on something that you are actually good at. You can be “Super Mom” or “Laundry Boy.”
4. Famous Monsters – A good scary party always includes the staple characters: Dracula, Frankenstein, The Witch, The Mummy, a Ghost, and Vampirella. These creatures, after all, are what Halloween is all about. They can come across as scary or grotesque, and are widely recognizable! Create a scene by coming as a sexy monster; a Witch with a high slit or a Dracula without a shirt would literally make the crowd wild!
5. Video Game Characters – For those who want to do away with traditional Halloween costumes, the video game world is a fresh and rich source of ideas. Classic characters from the Mario Brothers franchise always appeal to both the young and the old. Recent hits such as Plants vs Zombies and Angry Birds have also inspired attires that are both cute and relevant to the times. To be truly unique, you can choose to come as one of the smaller characters such as Toad or the Newspaper Zombie.
6. Fairy Tale Characters – Another classic genre would be characters from our favorite fairy tales. Young ladies revel at the chance to wear princess costumes and spend a small fortune in an effort to look like Cinderella or Snow White. Prince Charming is always looming at the horizon, trying to win the eye of a wandering princess. The uglier characters like Shrek and Ursula also get a fair share in the selection process. A group of friends can go to a costumer party dressed as the characters of a specific fairy tale and grab everyone’s attention. Wouldn’t it be great to see Snow White crash the party with her seven little dwarves?
Halloween need not be stressful, and should always be something to look forward to. It is meant to be a fun event for every member of the household, and is an opportunity to get together and bond. Creativity is the name of the game, and there are limitless ideas as to how to come up with meaningful and unforgettable Halloween costumes.
